Probable Maximum Loss and Average Annual Loss Estimates

CDS is looking to expand our earthquake and coastal
exposure reports to include Average Annual Loss and
Probable Maximum Loss estimates on a per location
basis. Users will be able to get an estimated
monetary value for a worst case scenario (Probable
Maximum Loss) and an annual loss scenario (Average
Annual Loss) for new and existing policies. We feel
these new features will help users to gain a better
understanding their risks, as well as provide a
valuable
tool for minimizing risk exposure.
CDS is
looking for
companies interested in this information to help us
to design our new reports. If you think this report
would be useful to your company, please let us know
by contacting Dan Munson at 617.737.4444

based on the RiskMeter Online’s Hail Model, which
predicts the severity of hail storms for any location in
the Continental United States. According to a new
report just released by the RiskMeter Online, the
following top ten hail prone metro-cities are as
follows:
- 1) Tulsa, OK

- 6) Arlington, TX

Flooded Maine Family Blames Error in Federal Maps

Insurance Journal - December 6
A
family
devastated by the Mother's Day flood that inundated
their home along the Mousam River in Kennebunk,
Maine says errors in federal maps prompted them to
forgo the purchase of flood insurance, a decision
that came back to haunt them.
"It's just
this massive nightmare,'' said Yetta Chin. "What we
need is for someone to assume the accountability for
what destroyed our lives.'' To read the entire
article, please click on the link below.

How RiskMeter's Flood Elevation Report Can
Help
The most common natural disaster
is flooding. Every state is susceptible to flooding and
this problem will only get worse due to new land
development and changes in weather patterns and
topology. RiskMeter's flood elevation report is the
perfect tool for underwriters to dig deeper when it
comes to evaluating flood risk. By simply typing in an
address, RiskMeter will return:
- FEMA Flood Zone
- Distance to Flood Zone
- Estimated Base Flood Elevation
- Elevation at a Location
- Estimated Height Above a Flood Zone
- Estimated Water Depth in a Flood Zone
- Aerial Photo (Optional)
This report will not only benefit underwriters, but it
will also benefit agents as well, by helping them to
sell
more flood insurance to people who live outside a
flood zone. For a two week complimentary trial
account, please contact Dan Munson at

Southland's Extended Dry Spell Stokes Fire

LA Times - December 5, 2006
The wildfire that continued to rage Monday in
Ventura County has been propelled by what experts
describe as a remarkably dry year throughout
Southern California.
In the last few days
alone, climatologists say they have been stunned by
humidity readings.
The region hasn't seen a significant rainstorm since
May, which has left brush around the Southland dry
and brittle for much of the year.
This year's
dryness has left Southern California and the West
with more brush fires. In the last five years, there
have been an average of 70,000 fires burning 6.6
million acres in the United States. So far this year,
there have been more than 91,000 fires, burning 9.58
million acres, Redmond said.

How can the RiskMeter Online Help?
As you can see from the previous article, it's
imperative for insurers to keep tabs on their wildfire
exposure. The CDS wildfire report benefits both
carriers and
agents by providing cost-effective ways to minimize
risk, maximize profits and write new business. Check
out some of our cutting-edge features below, which
are already being utilized by various carriers and
agents!
Batch Processing – Run an entire book of
business or a subset through the RiskMeter Online in
batch. This process enables carriers to get a clear
picture of their risk exposure, and it allows them to
make accurate underwriting decisions and pricing
adjustments!
Customized
Distances – More and more
carriers won’t accept policies if they fall within a
certain distance from brush. Since the RiskMeter
Online can be customized, we can alert
underwriters and agents that a policy won’t be
accepted because it falls within 300ft, 500ft,
1,000ft, etc., from brush.
Moratorium Areas – The RiskMeter now has
a
moratorium report that can be used as needed to
alert employees and agents that an area has been
closed for
writing new business. All users need to do is tell us
what zips, counties or areas are closed for writing
new business, and we will load it on our end.

California PML Zones Now Available

Many brokers use PML (Probable Maximum Loss)
Zones in California to aggregate earthquake
exposure. We
have just added these maps to the RiskMeter Online.
For those of you who aren't familiar with PML zones,
they are defined by
the California Department of Insurance and are a
reporting requirement for insurers doing business in
California.
CDS can now run your policies in
batch and
append these zones to all of your CA business. If
you are interested or would like this report added to
your account, please contact Bradley Sherwin
at 617.737.4444 or
bsherwin@cdsys.com
